The renovated Bordertown Casino & Arena in Seneca, Oklahoma opened doors on Thursday. The property is owned and operated by the Eastern Shawnee Tribe and features as many as 500 slot machines, rodeo arena, mechanical bull, dance floor that can hold up to 1,000 people, a chuck wagon restaurant, etc. Tribal officials, however, stated that there will be no gaming tables at the casino.

Sep 25, 2019  (From the Eastern Shawnee Tribe) Bordertown Casino & Arena is one of three Eastern Shawnee Casinos located in Northeast Oklahoma. The tribe opened Bordertown in 2003 and the facility housed 900 gaming machines, bingo and table games.

The tribe had its first gambling venue – a bingo hall – launched back in 1984. Almost 20 years later they decided to move it to a new building where slot machines and other amenities were added. Tribal officials then announced that a new hotel and casino property would be built and would be located on one of the major highways. The so-called Indigo Sky was launched in 2012.

The former Bordertown Casino was shuttered, due to the fact that the tribe did not have the funds needed to maintain two venues of this kind. Burst pipes flooded the closed property and tribal officials were provided with an insurance totaling $2 million, which made it possible for them to commence renovation procedures. This took almost three years and as already mentioned, the property had its official opening mere hours ago.

Glenna Wallace, the current chief of the Eastern Shawnee Tribe, stated that they wanted to establish a venue with a completely different theme. She pointed out that the launch of the Bordertown Casino & Arena will most definitely attract more visitors to Seneca. This is why she believes they have made the right choice.

The tribe’s chief also commented that they have chosen to add bull events, since they wanted to offer something different, something that has not been offered in the area. She pointed to the fact that according to recent statistics, bull riding is one of the fastest growing sports on the territory of the United States.

The idea for the construction of the arena came from Rick Smith, General Manager of Bordertown Casino & Arena. Mr. Smith has a considerable experience in bull raising.

The first bull futurity event will be a riderless one and is scheduled for May 23. Ms. Wallace explained that there will be no admission charge for arena events as well as for the dance floor.

After the renovation of the property, 125 permanent jobs were created. A total of 900 people are now working at the two facilities managed by the Eastern Shawnee Tribe.
